Texas’ energy boom is accelerating as load growth, project development, and interconnection requests surge across the state. Texas has surpassed California in installed solar capacity, while energy storage deployment is rapidly expanding. At the same time, explosive demand from data centers, AI, advanced manufacturing, and a fast-growing population is placing unprecedented pressure on the ERCOT grid.
Grid planners are currently evaluating more than 233 GW of large load interconnection requests, with over 70% coming from data centers. Summer peaks are projected to approach 88 GW by 2026, tightening reserve margins and raising critical questions about how Texas’ energy-only market will maintain reliability while integrating massive new loads.
